The "Starting" Status is useful if you want a range of status choices to pick from, but commonly, particularly in-house, a Sales Lead or Problem Record status needs to be updated to the same Status straight away each time. For Instance, we log every new lead and immediately set them all to "Connect Add-On Sale". Problems also have this, for instance, all New Problems go to "Technical Support" before any other status. An Admin Table to link Record Types and Type Details i.e. CRM Support Request to default Status' i.e. Technical Support, would be useful; not to lock it at that Status, but just set that status upon record creation to save clicking and setting each time. Its then up to the user to update the status as normal if desired.
This is a good idea, and one we have wanted to do for a while. I cannot say when it will be included but I am hopefully it will be included in a future version.
