We would like the option to customise the terminology "Opportunity" to read Lead in the main Global Search. I understand this is not possible in the current core entity.
Opportunity or Deal are the accepted industry terms for this type of record.
The term Lead has now come to mean something different. Over the years, the term Lead has become widely used in Marketing to refer to a lifecycle stage for a person or a company. I.e. a company moves from being a prospect to a (raw) lead, to an MQL (marketing qualified lead), to an SQL (Sales Qualified Lead), and hopefully onto being a customer.
This is widely accepted terminology now, you will find this in all major Marketing automation platforms. So renaming Opportunity back to Lead would just lead to greater confusion amongst customers and between systems. Hopefully all of our long-standing and loyal customers will by now have started getting used to calling these records Opportunities, and so hopefully this is less of an issue now than it was at the beginning.
