To save on mouse clicks and keystrokes it would be handy for the search criteria to be cleared from the global search input. Not all customers may want this so it may be better to have this switched on with a system option.
Once a search is complete the search term is provided in the results set ready for adjustment so having the global input cleared wouldn't impede slight alterations to the search term.
