Be able to choose whether a field is read only or editable

When adding in a new column to a view such as adding the extended description to the quote lines, it would be good to be able to choose whether that field is editable or read only. Currently, it would just be read only please see screenshot showing where i have added in the additional field (extended description) & you cannot edit this field.
