We have recently received feedback from customers that when creating opportunities and problems in their workspace that the source field always defaults to Unknown. This field is required when creating an opportunity, but is often missed by the sales person when creating the records, as it would already be set on the creation screen by default. This in turn creates issues when doing reporting on historical problems and opportunities, as by the time this is noticed it has already been assigned across multiple records. Leaving the source field blank and prompting the user to manually select and option would make the user aware of what is being filled in here and would help to enforce that the relevant source is selected in this field.
This Opportunity Source field is now configured to be an optional field with no pre-defined default value. This makes it work in a way that's consistent with other similar dropdown fields in the CRM.
Because there is no longer a pre-defined default of "Unknown" and the default is now null/empty, if you wish, it is now possible to configure the field (using the customiser) and set the field as mandatory, and force users to enter a value for this field. (wheras previously the pre-defined default value meant that making the field mandatory didnt do actually do anything)
