Having the ability to group/summarise by month is unbelievably powerful.
For example, 12-60 month projections can be made using the Estimated close date.
Or past sales performance can be compared to check the improvement of a sales person over time.
We could add a ui option to grouping on date by Day/Month/Year similar to the UI for summarising a value can be min/max/average/count etc.
