Currently you cannot bulk update Opportunity status within the CRM. I believe this is due to handling Opportunities that are in different pipelines that may not use the status you are trying to set.
It would be beneficial to have a report that you can set a specific pipeline filter and then allow bulk update of status' from that report, to ensure that it can be set on these records.
