Option to remove convert to quote prompt on an opportunity

Customer with more complex quoting requirements find that the convert to quote screen on an opportunity is misleading. This screen implies that the correct/best procedure is to convert the opportunity to quote. Some customers solely use sub quotes and as such their team and converting the opportunites to quotes mistakenly. Having the option to remove this prompt would allow them to prevent this confusion.

In release 122 we made several updates around this including:

    • You can now convert Simple Quotes back to Opportunities through the triple-dot menu.

    • We've added a system option to allow users to switch the primary action for Opportunities between “Convert to Quote” and “Create Sub-Quote”.

We revise quotes so we can revert to a previous option by duplicating the quote, revising the items and cancelling the original and there is no way to do this if the opportunity and quote is the same item

Also need to have the ability to disable the 'create simple quote' button as this also breaks the opportunity / quote workflow

+10 votes from us too - this breaks our workflow and people keep pressing it even after multiple training sessions to tell them not to. we require quotes to have separate ID numbers from the opportunity and the ability to keep a log of revisions and different options presented to the client so multiple quotes are required on every opportunity for our company

Hi Jordan, I'd be really keen to understand why you think this process doesnt work for your business? It's the ideal process in 99.9% of cases. Before implementing this we did a lot of research on historic quotes before deciding to do this. It's worth noting that this "convert to quote" feature provides exactly the same functionality as having a seperate opportunity and quote, except that you get to manage the quote and opportunity on one screen rather than having to switch back and forth. Indeed, underneath you still have the exact same data (a full/standard opportunity and a full/standard quote) it's only the interface that has been simplified.

The only scenario in which this isnt the right process would be if there are mutliple quotes under the same opportunity. But in our research this was the case in only a tiny fraction of opportunities ever generated.

But, like i say, please feel free to explain why you think this isnt right for you and I'll help to dispell that or think more about your use case.

It would be great if this could be implemented ASAP.

Converting opportunities to quotes doesn't work for our business, but is encouraged by the system with a "Convert to Quote" button featured prominently on opportunity level and further incentivised in the "Quotes" tab on opportunity level with the following text:

"Once you're ready to quote your customer or take an order, then you can convert this Opportunity into a Quote. That offers the simplest and most efficient quoting and ordering interface. But for more complex scenarios you can instead choose to create sub-Quotes."

These UI elements cannot be disabled, and it feels like they were added without considering how misleading they would be for Prospect customers who do not wish to convert opportunities. This is made worse by the fact that once an opportunity is converted, there is no way to reverse it, causing all sorts of headaches if it is done by accident.
