Speaking with people who are new to the CRM and from my experience when first using it, it is a little confusing having the reports menu on the left side. It's fairly common on the web/native apps to have the primary menu for searching/navigation being in that location whereas in our system it's just for reports. This can be especially confusing to new users who are looking to navigate around the web UI and have only a small set of default reports. They may attempt to use that menu to find their way around, rather than using the search and won't find any content.
I don't think the menu needs to be moved, but just adding more navigation options to make it more of a menu.
