Remove/change default Estimated Close date

At the moment, when a new leads created a default estimated close is set. Is it possible to create a system option to either change the default estimated close date (i.e. 7 days ahead or 30 days ahead) or remove the default date so no date is set when a lead is created (with the option to then make the estimated close date a mandatory field)?
