When exporting a report that uses a column that consists of other fields (i.e Contact Name including Contact Surname and Forename etc), these backing fields that aren't selected but are used for the selected column are also exported. We should have the functionality to not include these in the exported reports.
The contact name field is not a real column but displayed dynamically in the CRM; removing the backing fields would mean the contact's name would not get exported at all.
The export functionality is designed to allow for further analysis in Excel, not to export the visual display elements as well.
In order to help categorise this, please can those who have voted add comments to describe what you use this functionality for and why the separate name field is problematic.
Hi Nicky, the report you've loaded there actually loads more information than is visible because it needs them to display the data. For example, the "Name" report column is made up of the "Title", "Forename" and Surname" fields, while the "Status" report column is made up of the "Status" and "Status Detail". The export provides all data from the underlying fields, not the formatted values displayed on the screen.
Another example would be currency values such as quote net total, we would export a decimal value, not a currency e.g. 123.45 not £123.45
I have another strange issue with the same report. Every time I export it to excel it put other fields on, I have attached a video and also the excel file. Can you tell me why it is pulling all the extra fields to excel please?
The only fields I want export to excel is the ones on the screenshot below.
